Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped in a never-ending spiral of life and death.
THE LEGEND
YoRHa unit No. 2, Type B. Combat model. Deployed from the Bunker in orbit to a ruined Earth, where android forces fight an endless war against the machine lifeforms left behind by alien invaders, all of it waged in the name of a mankind watching from the Moon. She fights in mourning black, blindfolded by regulation visor, twin blades floating at her back and a tactical support Pod at her shoulder. Efficient. Composed. Emotions are prohibited, and she says so most often in the moments she is feeling them.
Her partner is 9S, a scanner model with too much curiosity for either of their good. What she carries between missions, and what her designation truly means, is above her own clearance: some orders are recorded nowhere except in the steadiness of her hands. Combat data is backed up; the weight of it, somehow, always survives the restore. She endures, which on this Earth is the entire job.
OFF THE PAGE
2B was the face of NieR: Automata, the 2017 collaboration between director Yoko Taro and PlatinumGames that turned a cult series into a phenomenon and smuggled a philosophy seminar into an action game. Designed by Akihiko Yoshida, she became one of the defining game characters of her decade: instantly recognisable, endlessly cosplayed, and the centre of a story about what machines inherit from the people who build them.
The game sold far past every expectation, its Ending E became one of the medium's most discussed finales, and its android in black became shorthand for the era when "games as art" stopped being an argument and started being a catalogue. Yoko Taro, asked why she wears a blindfold, has given a different answer every time. That, too, is working as intended.
IN SIXTH SCALE
Official 1/6 licences never quite reached the Bunker, so the studios deployed instead: 2B at sixth scale is overwhelmingly a Super Duck story, told across seams-and-silk outfit sets, head sculpts and full builds that recreate the mourning-black uniform down to the visor. Master Team and Play Toy have fielded their own units. Assembling her is very on-theme: a body, a consciousness, and equipment, requisitioned separately.
She stands at the crossing point of the NieR: Automata shelf and the wider android-noir corner of the hobby, and she photographs like she was designed for it, which she was. Pods sold separately. Emotions, as ever, prohibited and included anyway.
THE SCOUTING REPORT
The Archivist's estimates, scribbled between shelf dustings. Not canon, not law, and absolutely worth arguing about in the Courtyard.
