Wakanda forever!
THE LEGEND
Five tribes went to war over a mound of sky-metal, and a panther goddess ended the argument. So the elders tell it in Birnin Zana: Bast led a warrior shaman to the Heart-Shaped Herb, and the first Black Panther rose to unite Wakanda, a nation that would spend centuries hiding the most advanced civilization on Earth behind a curtain of mist and misdirection. The mantle is not a costume there. It is a throne, a priesthood, and a promise, passed from ruler to ruler while the outside world mistook paradise for pastureland.
T'Challa, son of T'Chaka, carries it now. A murdered father, stolen vibranium, a cousin with a rightful grievance and an army to press it: the Panther has met every trial at the falls and on the Ancestral Plane, and come back wiser each time. When he finally drew back the curtain and showed Wakanda to the world, it was not surrender. It was an invitation, from a king who hunts in silence and governs out loud.

T'Challa arrived in Fantastic Four #52 (1966), a Stan Lee and Jack Kirby creation who tested himself against the whole Fantastic Four as a housewarming gesture and entered history as the first Black superhero in mainstream American comics, months before the Black Panther Party made the name a headline. Don McGregor's 'Panther's Rage' in Jungle Action (1973) built one of comics' earliest long-form epics; Christopher Priest's 1998 run rebuilt T'Challa as a king first and a superhero second, introducing the Dora Milaje; Ta-Nehisi Coates later handed him a nation questioning its own crown.
On screen, Chadwick Boseman debuted the role in Captain America: Civil War (2016), and Ryan Coogler's Black Panther (2018) became a planetary event: more than $1.3 billion, a Best Picture nomination, three Academy Award wins, and a crossed-arm salute that escaped the movies entirely. After Boseman's death in 2020, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) passed the mantle to Shuri, and the character became something rarer than a franchise: a legacy.
IN SIXTH SCALE
The Panther's sixth-scale reign belongs to Hot Toys, which has kept the Wakandan throne stocked since T'Challa first stalked out of the Civil War era in 2017. The appeal is obvious: a Marvel hero whose costume is a sculptor's dream, all matte black weave, silver claw-trim and sacred geometry, crowned by one of the most quietly lifelike unmasked portraits in the hobby. Collectors argue over eras the way Wakandans argue over tribes: the lean Civil War stalker, the kingly 2018 habit with its necklace of claws, the battle-worn variants that look fresh off Mount Bashenga. Whichever court you join, the same advice applies to hunting a Panther in the wild: move quietly, strike quickly, and never let a good preorder window close on you.
