I am the Senate.
THE LEGEND
The greatest trick the Sith ever played was patience. A mild senator from Naboo spent decades being underestimated in plain sight, manufacturing a blockade here, a war there, always the reasonable man reluctantly accepting emergency powers he had written himself. By the time the Jedi realized the Sith Lord they hunted was chairing their briefings, he had an army with a kill order stitched into its bones.
Order 66 ended a thousand generations of Jedi in an afternoon, and the Republic voted itself into an Empire to thunderous applause. As Emperor he ruled through fear and lightning, grinding apprentices into weapons and discarding them, until the weapon he trusted most threw him down a reactor shaft to save a son. Even that was not the end; death itself proved negotiable for a man who studied it that long. The galaxy's wars all trace to one appetite, patient as a spider: unlimited power, sincerely meant.
OFF THE PAGE
Ian McDiarmid has played Palpatine across six films and four decades, a run almost unmatched for a screen villain, and built two performances in one: the prequels' silken politician and the original trilogy's cackling wreck. Revenge of the Sith (2005) gave him the opera-box scene that launched a thousand memes, and the internet's prequel renaissance turned I am the Senate and the tragedy of Darth Plagueis into permanent cultural furniture. His The Rise of Skywalker (2019) return split the audience but proved the pull: Star Wars keeps reaching back for its Emperor because nothing else in the saga radiates the same delighted evil. Among cinema's villains he is the great economist, conquering a galaxy with almost no screen combat, just patience, paperwork and the best worst laugh ever recorded.
IN SIXTH SCALE
His shelf is a Hot Toys monopoly, and a rich one: the Return of the Jedi Emperor with throne and robes, and the Revenge of the Sith Sidious in both dignified and ruined-face forms. A Palpatine figure lives or dies on two details, the sculpt of that collapsed grin and the fall of the robes, and the throne versions are quietly some of the best diorama anchors in the entire Star Wars line. Collectors stage him high and central: flank the throne with royal guards, park a Vader at his right hand, and the shelf's power structure explains itself.
THE SCOUTING REPORT
The Archivist's estimates, scribbled between shelf dustings. Not canon, not law, and absolutely worth arguing about in the Courtyard.
