THE LEGEND
Han Li was born poor, in a mountain village where nobody expected much of anyone. As a boy he was sent to sit the entrance test of a minor martial sect, the Seven Mysteries Sect, in the hope of making life easier for his family. He was taken on as a lowly disciple under Doctor Mo, a mentor with plans of his own for the boy, and soon found that his talent for cultivation was ordinary at best.
What he had instead was caution, patience and a secret. A small, mysterious bottle came into his hands, and its green liquid could ripen medicinal herbs at an impossible rate. He hid it from everyone, Doctor Mo most of all. When the old doctor tried to seize his body for himself, Han Li came out alive and a good deal wiser. From there he left the mortal martial world behind for the cultivators of Yellow Maple Valley and began a long, methodical climb toward immortality. He wins by surviving, and he survives by never taking a risk he can avoid.

Han Li is the hero of A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality (Fanren Xiuxian Zhuan), a xianxia web novel by Wang Yu serialised on Qidian, the Chinese web fiction platform. It was the author's first novel, appeared in book form in 2010, and topped Qidian's monthly ticket chart in November 2010. Its hook is its hero. In a genre full of chosen ones and hidden bloodlines, Han Li has mediocre talent and gets by on prudence, so much so that readers came to treat his caution as a running joke.
The story has since been adapted into comics, games and, most visibly, a donghua (a Chinese animated series) that began on Bilibili in July 2020, produced with Wonder Cat Animation. The animated series gave Han Li a face for a much wider audience, and the official English translation on Wuxiaworld carried the novel abroad. A sequel novel, set in the immortal realm, picks up his story thousands of years later.
IN SIXTH SCALE
In sixth scale Han Li belongs to Cosmic Creations, a maker whose range leans heavily on Chinese donghua heroes. Its first Han Li came in standard and deluxe editions, and both lean on the story's props more than on armour: layered robes and arm guards, the mysterious bottle itself, a five elements array, talismans, the Qing Yuan Sword book and his sword. The deluxe edition adds the showpiece, a formation of flying swords held on display frames plus a giant sword, so the figure can be posed mid-technique.
A later release from the same maker moves him further along his path, with a wired cape, gauntlets, a spear, a tripod, a lightning effect part and a head with rolling eyes for shifting his expression. Collectors of A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality build their displays around those effect parts, which do the work the animation does on screen. He sits naturally beside heroes of other cultivation sagas from the same maker, such as Battle Through the Heavens and Renegade Immortal.
