Officer Alex Murphy transferred to Old Detroit's worst precinct and lasted one shift. What OCP rebuilt from him was a product: titanium body, targeting systems, three prime directives, and a memory wipe that did not quite take. RoboCop cleaned up a city one creep at a time, walking through gunfire like weather, the Auto 9 drawn from a holster built into his own leg.
But machines do not dream, and this one did. A house he used to live in. A woman and a son. A name. The product line's great malfunction was becoming a man again: when they finally asked what to call him, the answer came back simple. Murphy.
OFF THE PAGE
Paul Verhoeven's 1987 masterpiece is a magic trick: a chrome action blockbuster that is secretly the sharpest corporate satire of its decade, right down to the commercial breaks. Peter Weller trained with a mime coach to invent the suit's mechanical grace, Rob Bottin built the armor, and ED-209's staircase problem became shorthand for overengineered corporate failure.
"Dead or alive, you're coming with me" and the tragedy of Murphy underneath the satire made RoboCop that rare thing: an eighties icon that critics kept upgrading. The future of law enforcement, indeed.
IN SIXTH SCALE
RoboCop is a finish showcase: that mirror-chrome armor is the whole assignment, and diecast versions give him a heft in hand that matches the screen presence. The RoboCop shelf centers on Hot Toys releases with the working leg-holster mechanism and the Auto 9, plus battle-damaged and jetpack variants for the deep catalog.
