I'm the best there is at what I do. But what I do best isn't very nice.
Wolverine (1982)

THE LEGEND

He has been a soldier in more wars than he can count, and he can count a lot of them from memory because forgetting is the one wound that ever stuck. The healing factor knits everything else: bullets, blades, decades. Somewhere along the way, men in a laboratory poured molten adamantium over his skeleton and called him a weapon, and he has spent every year since deciding whether they were right. Two animals live in him. One is the berserker: claws out, red mist, the things even his friends look away from. The other is the samurai he keeps trying to become, the quiet man in the cabin who teaches angry kids that rage is not a destiny. The claws are the least interesting thing about him. The interesting thing is how often the second animal wins.

OFF THE PAGE

He debuted as a throwaway antagonist in The Incredible Hulk #181 in 1974, invented in an editorial afternoon, and became the most popular X-Man ever drawn once Claremont and Byrne gave the runt a soul. Comics' short king (5'3" in canon) then spent seventeen years on screen as the tallest thing in every frame: Hugh Jackman's nine-film run remains the longest single-actor superhero tenure in history. Logan closed that run in 2017 as something no one expected: a superhero western about mortality that earned an Oscar nomination for its script and permanently raised the bar for how these stories are allowed to end.

IN SIXTH SCALE

Wolverine's sixth-scale shelf is one of the most maker-diverse in the Archive: Hot Toys owns the screen Logans, while Honō Studio and a spread of studios chase the comic and animated looks, from the brown-and-tan classic to the yellow-and-blue that only the brave attempt in fabric. Ten makers deep, he is proof that a great character survives any costume debate on the Marvel shelf. Claw articulation, masked and unmasked sculpts, and the eternal brown-suit-versus-yellow argument make him a collector's character in the best way. Every snikt is catalogued below, newest first.

THE SCOUTING REPORT

The Archivist's estimates, scribbled between shelf dustings. Not canon, not law, and absolutely worth arguing about in the Courtyard.
