THE LEGEND
Ellie was born after the outbreak and has never known the world before it. She grew up in the Boston quarantine zone, at a military boarding school where her friend Riley stood up for her against the bullies. One night in an abandoned mall, the two of them were bitten by the Infected. Ellie never turned, and the immunity in her blood became the most valuable thing left in a ruined America.
At fourteen she was handed to a hardened smuggler named Joel, who was to carry her across the country to the Fireflies and their hospital in Salt Lake City, where making a cure would have cost her life. Joel did not let that happen, and lied to her about it. Years later, settled with him in Jackson, Wyoming, she lost him to a killer named Abby, and her hunt for revenge took her to Seattle and on to Santa Barbara, at the price of two fingers. She came home to a guitar she could no longer play, and left it behind.

Ellie was created at Naughty Dog by Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley for The Last of Us, released in 2013, and grew out of an idea left unused from Uncharted 2. Ashley Johnson performed her. Her early design drew comparisons with Elliot Page, and the team made her younger in response. Critics singled her out for breaking the damsel-in-distress mould: she is witty, stubborn and capable, and the bond between her and Joel carries the whole game.
The 2014 expansion Left Behind told the story of Ellie and Riley. The Last of Us Part II in 2020 made her the lead in a long, bleak revenge story, with Dina as her girlfriend, and Johnson's performance was widely acclaimed. In 2023 HBO brought her to television with Bella Ramsey in the role, and Ramsey's performance drew acclaim of its own, especially in the second season. For collectors that means two Ellies and two timelines, though the games still supply the look that sixth-scale makers follow.
IN SIXTH SCALE
Ellie's sixth scale figures have come from makers working without a licence, usually under coded names. CC Toys got there early with The Last Survivor, a double set pairing her with Joel in summer and winter looks from the first game, then followed with a Seattle version of the older Ellie from Part II. Toys Era released The Last Hope, with backpack, sleeping bag, knife, pistol and her joke book. Fifth Space Toys made her in the worn coat and jeans of Part II, with a deluxe edition adding a second head, a spare weathered T-shirt and a wearable full-size backpack, and LimToys took on the younger Ellie of Part I.
Because she is a teenager in one game and a young woman in the other, collectors usually pick an age first. Then come the usual questions for an unlicensed figure: how close the head sculpt gets to the game model, whether the body is slight enough to read as Ellie, and how convincingly the clothes are weathered. Most buyers want her next to Joel Miller, and CC Toys even sold the two as a pair. The full The Last of Us shelf gathers the rest of the series.
