THE LEGEND
Satoru Gojo is the strongest jujutsu sorcerer of his age, and he knows it. Born with both the Limitless technique and the Six Eyes, he can bend space around himself so that nothing quite reaches him, and he keeps those eyes covered with a blindfold or dark glasses because they see far too much. He teaches at Tokyo Jujutsu High, where he takes in students the rest of the jujutsu world would rather execute: first Yuta Okkotsu, then Yuji Itadori, host to the curse Ryomen Sukuna.
His past explains his manner. As a student he was inseparable from Suguru Geto, until Geto turned against sorcerers and the two friends became enemies. Gojo's answer was to raise a generation strong enough to change the system he despises. At Shibuya, his enemies, unable to beat him, sealed him away in the Prison Realm instead. When he finally came back, it was to face Sukuna himself, and it was the last fight he had.
OFF THE PAGE
Gojo was created by Gege Akutami. He first appeared in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, a short series from 2017 in which he mentors Yuta Okkotsu, before the main series began in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2018 and he took Yuji Itadori under his wing. Akutami wanted a character who was formidable and endearing at once, and gave him a blindfold he can see straight through, a design he linked to the historical figure Sugawara no Michizane.
MAPPA's anime, from 2020, made him a worldwide favourite, with Yuichi Nakamura voicing him in Japanese and Kaiji Tang in English. The second season in 2023 opened with Hidden Inventory, a flashback to his student days with Geto. Gojo became the series' breakout character, winning Best Supporting Character at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards and the Newtype Anime Award for Best Male Character in 2024, while Nakamura won a Seiyu Award for the part. His death in the duel with Sukuna was one of the most discussed moments in the manga.
IN SIXTH SCALE
ThreeZero brought Gojo into sixth scale in its FigZero line, as part of a Jujutsu Kaisen set alongside Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki. Theirs stands about 31.6 cm with a head sculpted by Akinori Takaki, a blindfolded face and a bare face, hair up and hair down, and hands for his techniques: Reversal Red, Hollow Purple and the sign for Unlimited Void.
Asmus Toys has made him twice on its ADAM+ body. The first, in his dark uniform, came with three heads (blindfolded, in sunglasses and bare-eyed) and a Hollow Purple effect part. The second follows the Hidden Inventory arc: the teenage Gojo in his high school uniform, with a peace-sign hand, a flip phone and sunglasses. Asmus has also made Sukuna, so the duel that ended his story can be staged on the shelf.
Anime figures at this scale stand or fall on turning a drawn face into three dimensions, and Gojo's eyes are the hard part. Collectors look for a bare-eyed head with the right pale blue, then for effect parts that make the techniques read. More on the Jujutsu Kaisen shelf.
