THE LEGEND

Erling Haaland was born in Leeds on 21 July 2000, while his father, the Norwegian footballer Alf-Inge Haaland, was playing for Leeds United. The family moved home to Bryne in Norway when he was three. Sport ran in the house: his mother, Gry Marita Braut, had been a national heptathlon champion. He joined Bryne's academy at five, made his first-team debut at fifteen, and signed for Molde at sixteen. From there the goals came in bulk. At the 2019 Under-20 World Cup he scored nine in one match against Honduras, a tournament record. That autumn, for Red Bull Salzburg, he scored a hat-trick on his Champions League debut. Borussia Dortmund came next, then Manchester City in 2022. His first season in England brought 36 Premier League goals, a new single-season record, and the treble of league, FA Cup and Champions League. In 2024 he became Norway's all-time top scorer, and in November 2025 his goals carried Norway to their first World Cup since 1998.

OFF THE PAGE

Haaland is one of the most recognisable athletes of his generation, and that matters as much to a sculptor as to a broadcaster. He stands six foot five, with long hair tied back, and after a goal he often sits cross-legged in a meditation pose, eyes closed, while the stadium roars around him. Few footballers come with a celebration so ready-made for a figure. His records have already earned him a place in the game's history. The 2022 to 2023 season with Manchester City brought the treble, the Golden Boot and both the FWA and PFA player of the year awards. In March 2023 he scored five times against RB Leipzig in a single Champions League match, the fastest five-goal haul the competition had seen. He won the Golden Boy award as a young player, was named UEFA Men's Player of the Year in 2023, and in January 2025 signed a contract with City running to 2034, the longest deal in Premier League history.

IN SIXTH SCALE

Real footballers are a small, specialist corner of 1/6 scale, and most of it is made by small studios and custom sculptors. Haaland's figure in the Archive comes from Memo Studio, which works to order: each twelve-inch figure is sculpted and painted by hand for the buyer, so there is no fixed release date, and the kit, boots and pose can follow the commission. The same studio has built Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and Football King Toys has worked in the same territory. That is how most collectors approach football figures. They start from the likeness and then choose the moment: Manchester City sky blue or Norway red, the treble season, the meditation celebration. Kit accuracy matters as much as the face, down to the sponsor, the collar for that season and the number on the back. Height matters too. At one-sixth scale Haaland stands around thirty-three centimetres, taller than a typical twelve-inch figure, and a good one should tower over his teammates on the shelf. The wider Sports shelf collects athletes from every game.
