THE LEGEND
LeBron James was born in Akron, Ohio, on 30 December 1984, and became famous before he was old enough to vote. A schoolboy star at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, he went straight to the NBA, drafted first overall by his home-state Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003. He moved to the Miami Heat in 2010, a move announced in a televised special, The Decision, that put him for a while among the most disliked athletes in America.
In Miami he won championships in 2012 and 2013. Back in Cleveland he delivered the city's title in 2016, and with the Los Angeles Lakers he won again in 2020, each time taking the Finals MVP award, the first player to win it with three different teams. He also won Olympic gold in 2008, 2012 and 2024. On 7 February 2023 he passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA's all-time leading scorer, and on 2 March 2024 he became the first player to reach 40,000 points. Later that year he played alongside his son Bronny, the first father and son to share an NBA court.
OFF THE PAGE
Few athletes have lived as public a career. "King James" was a national story as a teenager, and every move after that was argued over, from the televised Decision in 2010 to his return to Cleveland and the 2016 title that followed. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
His records explain why he keeps being made in miniature. Four championships with three franchises, four Finals MVPs, four regular season MVPs, three Olympic golds, the all-time scoring record and the first 40,000-point career give collectors a long list of moments to choose from. A figure can be the young Cavalier, the Heat champion, the Laker who broke Kareem's record, or the veteran sharing the floor with his son.
For sports collectors, LeBron is also one of the few modern players whose likeness carries real weight on a twelve-inch shelf next to the legends who came before him.
IN SIXTH SCALE
Sports figures live or die by the likeness, and LeBron has drawn some serious attempts in 1/6 scale.
Enterbay made him part of its officially licensed Real Masterpiece NBA Collection. Its Lakers figures came with tattoo detailing, a magnet in the hand and the basketball so he can hold it, a warm-up suit and Nike sneakers. Special editions marked his fourth championship, with Larry O'Brien trophies, and his all-time scoring record, with the 38,388-point milestone, a suit and both his #6 and #23 Lakers jerseys. Enterbay's first LeBron came out years earlier, in his Miami era.
AOM and Reset Studio have added their own twelve-inch LeBrons, with Reset Studio returning to him in several versions.
Collectors judge a basketball figure on three things: the face, the body proportions of a very big man, and the uniform and shoes for a specific season. Tattoos matter too, since they change over a career. Most shelve LeBron with Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant across the wider Sports range.
