THE LEGEND
Victor Fries was a cryogenicist with one patient who mattered: his wife Nora, terminally ill, suspended in ice until science could catch up to her cure. When the funding was pulled mid-procedure, the resulting accident flooded his laboratory with coolant and rewrote his body's chemistry. He walked out unable to survive above freezing, sealed into an armored refrigeration suit, married to a woman he can visit only through glass.
The crimes came after, and they have never once been for himself. Diamonds fund cryo-research; banks fund the machines that keep Nora dreaming. The cold that preserves him has crept inward over the years, and Gotham knows him now as its most disciplined villain, a man who freezes whole rooms without raising his voice. The Bat treats him differently than the others, and the reason is simple: Mr. Freeze is the only monster in Gotham whose motive is love.

He began in 1959 as Mr. Zero, a gimmick villain with an ice gun, and stayed a footnote for three decades. Then Paul Dini wrote Heart of Ice for Batman: The Animated Series in 1992, invented Nora, and turned a joke into the saddest man in Gotham; the episode won an Emmy and permanently rewrote the character into DC canon. Five years later Batman & Robin swung to the other pole, with Arnold Schwarzenegger delivering ice puns in a light-up suit, and somehow both versions endure: the tragedy and the camp, frozen together. The Arkham games' Cold, Cold Heart chapter and a celebrated Batman: Annual retelling completed his rehabilitation. Among Batman's rogues he is the inversion that makes the gallery work: a villain colder than any of them, driven by the warmest thing a person can carry.
IN SIXTH SCALE
Freeze is an engineering brief disguised as a character: domes, hoses, armor plate and a glow that begs for LEDs. Mondo delivered the animated definitive, goggles and all, while Hot Toys took the cinematic armored route, and SooSooToys covers the coded corner of the bench. Collectors judge a Freeze by the suit: whether the dome seats cleanly, whether the cryo-cannon holds its lines, whether the figure reads cold from across the room. He rewards the shelf builder too, pairing naturally with any DC display that needs its temperature lowered, and his accessories, from Nora references to frost effects, carry more story per gram than almost any villain's.
