We are Venom.
THE LEGEND
It came to Earth as a stowaway and stayed as a grudge. The symbiote is a living suit from a species that bonds completely, amplifying its host's strength, hunger and worst impulses, and it learned everything it knows about being a person from the men it has worn. With Eddie Brock the bond curdled into something stranger than either predator or partnership: two beings who despise almost everyone else slightly more than they annoy each other, sharing one body, one appetite and one very short list of people they protect.
Venom is what Spider-Man's silhouette looks like with the mercy removed: the same wall-crawl, the same swing, none of the restraint, and a grin that is mostly a warning. Ask it what it is and the answer never changes. Not I. We.
OFF THE PAGE
Venom began as a fan-designed black costume that Marvel bought for a few hundred dollars in the early 1980s, became the alien suit Spider-Man rejected, and then, in 1988, became the rejection itself: Todd McFarlane's tongue-lolling monster turned an editorial leftover into the era-defining anti-hero of the 1990s. He has been villain, lethal protector, and reluctant comedy duo, the latter perfected by the 2018 film, which discovered that the scariest mouth in comics is funniest when it bickers with its own host. Between Spider-Man 3, the animated series, Insomniac's games and three solo films, the character has now been terrifying and adorable to three separate generations, frequently in the same scene.
IN SIXTH SCALE
The sixth-scale record captures every era of the grin: Hot Toys spans the comics look, the film symbiote and Insomniac's game rendition, Medicom Toy holds the classic comic and Spider-Man 3 corners, and Mondo contributes the animated series telling. Within the Marvel wing, Venom figures are prized for the engineering problem they pose: tongues, tendrils and that jaw demand sculpting bravado, and the best releases lean in. Display advice traded among collectors is unanimous: face him toward the room. The grin is the point.
THE SCOUTING REPORT
The Archivist's estimates, scribbled between shelf dustings. Not canon, not law, and absolutely worth arguing about in the Courtyard.
