Flagset

Flagset, which sellers also spell Flageset, makes twelve-inch figures of people in uniform and numbers them in an FS-73 series. It is one of the few makers that has put women soldiers at the centre of its catalogue, and it covers modern Chinese services that most of the hobby leaves alone.

The women soldiers come in several runs. A Red Alert series brings Soviet women to the line, among them a sniper named Bella and an officer named Natasha. A Military Soul series turns to modern Chinese special forces, with a female sharpshooter (FS-73051) and a female shock trooper (FS-73052). There is also a female garrison officer of the Korean People's Army, and Martina, a soldier of an invented Eternal Empire, for collectors who like their uniforms imaginary.

The uniformed services are the other half. Flagset has made an officer of the Chinese People's Armed Police and a Chinese traffic police officer, the sort of everyday uniform that rarely gets a figure. Outside the FS numbers, a figure sold as Night War Ghost Simon Riley takes on Call of Duty's masked sergeant.

Flagset belongs on the Military shelf beside VeryCool, which also builds women soldiers, and the modern special forces of DamToys. The usual tests apply: the right camouflage, the right rifle, webbing that sits as it should, and a head sculpt that reads as a soldier and not a fashion doll. The sniper figures in particular reward a close look at the rifle and optics.
