Power Studio

Power Studio makes sixth scale superhero figures and numbers them in a PS series. Its opening pair in the Archive sets out a clear taste for the classic versions of the characters, the ones many collectors grew up with, ahead of the film costumes.

PS-001 is Captain America as he appears in the Marvel comics: Steve Rogers as the artists drew him, before any film costume department got involved. Comic Cap asks something different of a figure than the film versions do. The colours have to be bold without looking like a costume shop, and the build has to say super-soldier while still letting the arms move.

PS-002 crosses to DC and to television: Wonder Woman as Lynda Carter played her in the 1970s series. That is a demanding brief. The costume is simple, with the star-spangled shorts, the eagle bodice, the tiara and the bracelets, so everything rests on the likeness and on the proportions of the body underneath.

Both figures sit in a well-trodden part of the hobby, where Hot Toys and others have made their own Captains and Wonder Women, so collectors will want to put a Power Studio figure side by side with the alternatives and look hard at the face before they decide. The PS numbers are the easiest way to keep the releases straight.
