Eternal Toys

Eternal Toys makes sixth scale figures of science-fiction film heroes and numbers them in an ET-X series. Its figures carry short descriptive names, with the film left for the collector to recognise from the head sculpt and the kit.

The Space Exile line is the clearest example. ET-X9A is Cooper, the pilot of Interstellar, in the likeness of Matthew McConaughey: Joseph Cooper, farmer turned astronaut, sold simply under his surname. A companion figure, ET-X9B, is sold as Mann, and sellers offer the line in more than one lettered version. The theme is easy to read: people a very long way from home, in suits built for places that do not want them.

ET-X11 moves from deep space to a beach in France. Edge Soldier is William Cage of Edge of Tomorrow, the officer who wakes up on the same day every time he dies. It is a figure that lives or dies on its armour, since the film's exosuit is a bulky, mechanical thing that has to sit over a jointed body without locking it solid. General's Armoury has also taken on Cage at this scale, so collectors can compare two readings of the same suit.

Space suits and battle rigs are hard to do well in sixth scale. The fabric has to hang with weight, the hardware has to look like it could keep someone alive, and the face inside the helmet still has to be the actor. Check the lettered edition on any listing, because the contents differ from one version to the next.
