Facepool

Facepool makes twelve-inch soldiers, numbered in an FP series, and its home is the Second World War as both history and cinema tell it. Many figures come in lettered editions, and a figure is often recognisable as a film character from its kit and face while being sold under a unit title: Wardaddy of Fury went out as a Sherman tank sergeant of a US Armored Division.

The war films run deep. Fury has the tank crew, with Don Collier, Grady Travis and Boyd Swan. Saving Private Ryan supplies the sniper Daniel Jackson, a Ranger medic and a Ranger rifleman. Band of Brothers gives a paratrooper lieutenant and Richard Winters, and The Pacific brings the Marines Eugene Sledge and Merriell Shelton.

History gets its own figures. Claus von Stauffenberg appears in more than one version, including an Afrika Korps uniform from the Tunisian campaign, and the tank commander Michael Wittmann stands beside him. The anonymous ranks fill in the armies: an MG42 machine gunner, a German youth brigade soldier, US 29th Infantry and 101st Airborne men, Soviet naval infantry, and from Korea a US Marine and a Chinese People's Volunteer Army soldier.

Facepool now and then steps off the battlefield, with a Punisher, a Captain America of The First Avenger and a pair from The Irishman, but the Military shelf is the core. Judge it the way DID collectors judge theirs: the right kit for the unit, and a face that looks like a person.
