InArt is the sixth-scale brand from the team behind Queen Studios, the Hangzhou company famous for hyperreal silicone busts. The figure team formed in mid-2021 under an art director known publicly only as Viper, and announced itself in early 2022 with a figure that would define the brand: the Dark Knight Joker.
That Joker was the shot heard around the hobby. Offered in tiers up to a two-figure deluxe set with hand-rooted hair, it arrived with tailoring and paintwork that reviewers called the best Ledger likeness ever produced, and the community read Hot Toys' own later rooted-hair Artisan Joker as a direct answer. A challenger brand does not get a bigger compliment than that.
The house techniques are now signatures: hand-rooted hair on premium editions (sheep's wool on Gandalf), articulated rolling eyes, magnetic bases and seamless magnetic wrists, and dioramas that treat the base as part of the figure. Most releases come in a standard edition with sculpted hair and a premium or deluxe tier with the rooted hair and extra scene pieces, though newer announcements have started including rooted hair as standard.
Then there is Middle-earth. InArt picked up the license collectors had begged decades for, shipping Gandalf in 2023 and Aragorn in 2024, with Legolas, the Witch-King, Gimli, and Frodo and Sam in the pipeline. The company says Viggo Mortensen personally approved the Aragorn likeness, and the forums mostly agreed: after twenty-two years, someone finally nailed him. Around the flagship licenses sits a fast-growing roster: DC from the Pattinson Batman to the 2025 Superman, Harry Potter, Dune, The Walking Dead, Black Myth: Wukong, and an estate-licensed Michael Jackson.
The honest caveats: InArt runs premium prices, roughly $300 to $500 standard and climbing steeply for deluxe sets, with long preorder-to-ship gaps and occasional rooted-hair quality lottery. They release a handful of characters a year, not a catalogue. That is the deal on offer: fewer figures, higher ceilings, and right now the most credible pressure Hot Toys has faced in its modern era.
